PeaceBeginsHere and 8000 NOW

The PeaceBeginsHere Project is a global outreach effort of 8000 NOW. 8000 NOW is an organization dedicated to world peace by helping to establish 8000 practitioners of the TM and TM-Sidhi Programs in Fairfield and Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa. All members of this nonprofit organization, which was founded in 1999, are professional business people who practice these powerful peace technologies in the existing group in Fairfield.

8000 NOW works with the U.S. Transcendental Meditation program organizations and with the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, IA to develop and implement local and national programs in support of the creation of an 8000 group.

8000 NOW projects include:

• Fundraising Drive for World Peace – To support a group of 40,000 practitioners of peace technologies in India. (link to http://www.permanentpeace.org/implementation.html 8000 NOW helped to raise over a half a million dollars in less than a week in February 2002 through international grass roots efforts.


• FunFest 2002, August 3-8, 2002 – An eight day, 80+ event festival designed to showcase the vibrant and diverse Fairfield and Maharishi Vedic City communities and to help practitioners of the TM and TM-Sidhi programs from around the country relocate to these communities. 8000 NOW developed FunFest in cooperation with the Maharishi University of Management, the City of Fairfield, and Maharishi Vedic City.


• Monthly Community Knowledge Programs – Featuring advanced knowledge in support of the practice of the TM and TM-Sidhi Programs as well as the most recent research findings. These knowledge programs feature prominent faculty from the Maharishi University of Management.


• National Forum Presentations - The Cambridge Forum, November 16, 2002, marks the first in a series of forums planned to publicize how these technologies can create peace and eliminate terrorism in the world. To hold a forum in your city, please e-mail forums@peacebeginshere.org

Administrative Officers

Diane Comey, Co-Director of 8000 NOW, is a professional writer and publications coordinator specializing in promotional and marketing communications in both the corporate and academic sectors. Ms. Comey has been a small business owner and also has significant experience in event planning, seminar development and direct mail marketing. A mother of two, she is a practitioner of the TM and TM-Sidhi programs and a founding member of 8000 NOW, dedicating her life for the past three years to creating world peace.

Andy Josephs, Co-Director of 8000 NOW, is a successful small business owner, specializing in negotiations as well as in event promotion, with clients throughout the United States. Mr. Josephs has been active in community development since 1986. He also has extensive experience in consulting non-profit organizations and small businesses in the areas of marketing and fundraising. Mr. Josephs has lived in Fairfield, Iowa since 1979 where he has consistently participated in the group practice of the "peace technologies" of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi programs.

Barbara Stone is a garment and jewelry designer, also enjoying careers in marketing and education. She has been a student, educator and administrator in Consciousness-Based education and the TM program for over 30 years. A founding member of 8000 NOW, Ms. Stone is married, a mother of two sons, and has lived in Fairfield, Iowa for the past 20 years.

Dr. Carla Linton Brown completed a doctoral dissertation at Harvard in 1996 that examined responses to a study on the Maharishi Effect by elite members of the Middle East policy community, including peer reviewers, newspaper reporters, Congress people, and U.S. diplomats. Dr. Brown has been a management consultant for the past 10 years to Fortune 500 companies and a successful public relations consultant that has brought clients to world prominence.
